Competition Terms and Condititions

  1. Instructions on how to enter and other details contained within promotions for this competition form part of the conditions of entry.
  2. By entering the competition, entrants agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions.
  3. The terms and conditions of this competition are governed by the laws of the State of Western Australia.
  4. The competition is being run by Curtin University of Technology, GPO Box U1987, Perth, Western Australia, 6845 (“Curtin”).
  5. The Curtin University National Science Week photo competition commences at 9:00am, Thursday 20 June 2013 Australian Western Standard Time. To enter the competition, all entrants must:
    • (a) Be a resident of Western Australia; and
    • (b) Accurately complete all of the fields on the entry form located on the competition website (www.curtin.edu.au/science-week-comp) between 9:00am 20 June 2013, and 11:59pm Saturday 3 August 2013, Australian Western Standard Time.
  6. Entrants may submit a maximum of two (2) photographs in each of the four (4) categories (earth, water, air and fire). Only entrants under the age of 18 years can enter the student category.
  7. Digitally manipulated images will not be accepted. Images may be digitally enhanced using various methods. However, should an image be excessively manipulated, then Curtin reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to reject said image.
  8. Curtin reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant that submits a photograph that contains offensive or copyright material.
  9. Curtin reserves the right to disqualify any entrant that provides false information when entering the competition.
  10. Entry is free, other than the cost associated with accessing the website (which is the entrant’s responsibility).
  11. Curtin Corporate Communications staff are not eligible to enter this competition.
  12. The closing date for entering the competition is 11:59pm, Saturday 3 August 2013, Australian Western Standard Time.
  13. A panel of four (4) judges shall be appointed by the Manager, Public Relations, Curtin. The panel shall decide, in its sole discretion, the four (4) prize winners for the four (4) categories (earth, water, air and fire) and the one (1) student category winner. The Panel’s decision shall be final.
  14. The prize winner of the student category shall not, in addition, be a prize winner for the four (4) categories (earth, water, air and fire).
  15. All photographs submitted by entrants to the competition shall be eligible for the People’s Choice Award. Entrants may vote for the People’s Choice Award by visiting the competition website (www.curtin.edu.au/science-week-comp) between 9.00am, Sunday 4 August 2013 and 11.59pm, Sunday 18 August 2013, Australian Western Standard Time and submitting a vote through the competition website. The entrant that receives the most number of votes shall be deemed the winner of the People’s Choice Award. In the event of a draw, the panel appointed under clause 13 shall decide, in its sole discretion, the winner of the People’s Choice Award.
  16. Curtin Corporate Communications staff may not submit a vote for the People’s Choice Award.
  17. Each person voting for the People’s Choice Award is limited to a single vote. Valid email addresses must be supplied when votes are cast. Curtin reserves the right to disqualify any vote if voters are proven to have cast more than a single vote.
  18. The winner of the People’s Choice Award and all other categories will be announced no later than 2:00pm on Monday 19 August 2013, Australian Western Standard Time.
  19. All entries must be original works entirely owned by the entrant.
  20. While the photographer retains the copyright of all images submitted as competition entries, Curtin reserves the right to use any photographs for advertising or promotional use related to the competition and National Science Week only.
  21. The one (1) prize winner for the Earth category shall receive one (1) Apple iPad Mini 32GB Wifi only.
  22. The one (1) prize winner for the Water category shall receive one (1) Apple iPad Mini 32GB Wifi only.
  23. The one (1) prize winner for the Air category shall receive one (1) Apple iPad Mini 32GB Wifi only.
  24. The one (1) prize winner for the Fire category shall receive one (1) Apple iPad Mini 32GB Wifi only.
  25. The one (1) prize winner for the Student category shall receive one (1) Apple iPad Mini 32GB Wifi only.
  26. The one (1) prize winner for the People’s Choice Award shall receive one (1) $100 voucher to spend at the Camera House.
  27. Prizes are not redeemable for cash or an alternative prize.
  28. Prizes are not transferrable.
  29. Names of the winners in the competition will be published on the Curtin News and competition websites at the conclusion of the competition. By entering into the competition the winner agrees to grant Curtin permission to use his/her full name, suburb and country on its web sites for up to two months following the draw.
  30. Each of the prize winners will be notified by email by 5:00pm on Monday 19 August 2013, Australian Western Standard Time.
  31. Prize winners must provide photographic identification to collect and take receipt of prizes.
  32. Prize winners are required to abide by the terms and conditions as presented.
  33. By entering this contest you agree that you are over the age of 18 years, or if under 18, have your parent’s or legal guardian’s consent to enter.
  34. Curtin is not responsible in any manner whatsoever for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site, or any financial costs incurred, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participants or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation in or down-loading any materials in this promotion.
  35. Curtin accepts no responsibility and shall not be held legally liable or responsible for any accident, loss, injury or damage to any individual or property whether direct or indirect, whether in contract, tort, negligence or otherwise arising out of or in connection with the competition or the prize, either during or after the competition.
  36. Entry into this competition signifies acceptance of all conditions.
  37. Where personal details of entrants are provided as part of the competition, Curtin will comply with its privacy policy. Any and all personal information, including email addresses, collected at this website will be kept strictly confidential and will not be sold, reused, rented, loaned, or otherwise disclosed to any third party for any purpose whatsoever.
